Video Calling With Gingerbread?

No, we haven’t gone completely nuts, we mean Android 3.0 Gingerbread. If the latest rumours are to be believed, the next version of the little green robots software will bring with it the ability to partake in a spot of video calling or FaceTime if you prefer the Apple terminology.

The rumour stems from a quote from Google head honcho Andy Rubin, quoted saying: “We support video chat today, with Google Talk Video. It works on the desktop. Whether that can be re-purposed and made appropriate for sipping bandwidth for mobile, it’s an exercise that’s underway”.

The admission that Google are working on the technology alone is proof enough for some, especially given that some of the higher end Android Devices (like the Galaxy S’s of this world) are already being produced with front facing cameras and will almost certainly be first in line for an update to the big 3.0. The rumour seems to be reinforced by a comment from a “Tegra 2 hardware partner” that Android 3.0 Gingerbread will “change the way we use our phones.” A bold statement that we hope will be proved true when finally released.
